This is Kells Lane showing the gate house to the home of this man
Richard Cail was an entrepreneur.
He married one of the twin daughters of Thomas Wilson of Fell House. He built the house on land purchased from the estate of Rev Matthew Plummer of Heworth church. He was Vice President of the Society of Antiquaries and collected architectual features which he displayed in his garden eg a gable cross from St Edmund’s Chapel on Gateshead High Street. He died in 1893 and the house didn't last long after that...why? The gate posts are still in fine fettle
These are the gate posts to the house which still stand on Kells Lane at the bottom of Rosslyn Ave..that street was built where the house and garden was
