Abbott Memorial School, Gateshead
Industrial School for Boys and Girls
A mixed School until 1905. Certified 24th January 1869, and school operations commenced 8th February 1869.  The school was re-certified in 1905 for 150 boys only and in 1924 reduced to 125 boys. For another industrial school in Gateshead see Windmill Hills Day Industrial School, Gateshead
The first building on the new Durham Road. Built in 1869 by the widow of Gateshead industrialist John Abbott as an industrial school to reform and educate "street children". It closed in 1930. It became the admin of J. Todd Thompsons Red Stamp Stores..see next pic. Opposite the Swallow Hotel it was demolished in 1968 to make way for the flyover
