Goat Symbol/Emblem of Gateshead Council


Before ditching the goat symbol in favour of the gate and helmet brand on the Council's letter
heading/emblem/logo they used the goat device for many years and it appeared on Council stationery, carved into buildings and there is even a copper's truncheon bearing the image. It is surprising how many different versions of the character they used. The insignia goat was always in profile and always faced left...with one understandable exception. On Saltwell Park gateposts the right hand side post has the goat facing left as normal but the left hand gatepost has the goat facing right..see below
